Closet Organizers do it yourself or hire it out?
Considering making the investment to organize your closet? It may be easier than you think. Most people consider
getting this done, somehow other things take precedence. The hardest part seems to be sorting through everything
and considering which of the different types of materials to use to get your closet the way you want it. Once this
is completed the rest is almost childs play.
Now the part that gets most people fretting is how to actually install their custom closet organizer system. With
the right instructions this part of the project can be easily tackled. This site will show you two options: how to
do it yourself or how to hire someone to custom design a system for you.
If you choose to go the route of having a professional come in, make sure to check his or her references. This is a
booming industry and so you have plenty to choose from. Decide on exactly what you want and outline the specifics
clearly. Think of the look and feel of the closet area, the deadline for them to finish the job, also let
them know if you will provide the tools or if they will be supplying them, and agree ahead of time on the exact
amount that you will pay. Also make sure that the terms are clear on whether this is a flat rate or an hourly job.
We prefer a flat rate so that you know exactly how much this will cost you going in.
Now for all of you handy men and women, you can save a lot of money if you decide to do it yourself. You may need
to bring in a buddy though. Installing and leveling takes a certain level of dexterity and it is always good to
have a little help.
Make sure to have the proper tools for the job. Most custom closet products need just a few tools like a power
flat head screwdriver, and a Phillips head screwdriver, a level, a hammer, and a cordless drill.
Ok before you start, pull out the instructions and check to make sure that you have all of the parts. Most missing
parts can be found at your local hardware store. For specialty parts though, you may want to call the
manufacturer's service department and have them send them to you.
You can either read the instruction maual that comes with the package or you can go online and find the
instructions. I also like to do a quick search on youtube and see if anyone has posted a video on how to put this
together.
Closet organizer kits will tell you exactly what order to install things in, so follow the directions. Many times
you absolutely must put things together in a particular way, or the kit will not fit together or line up
properly.
Some organizers require you to purchase different pieces seperatly. If this is the case remember to install them
from the bottom to the top. Keep these parts seperated when building them, so that you do not accidently use the
parts for one on the other. The last thing you want is to have to take the whole thing apart and start over
again.
There are also some safety considerations that you should keep in mind. If your closet organization products do not
come with studs to attach them to the wall, go ahead and add wall anchors and braces to give make sure that they
are sturdy. You can find these things at home depot or your local hardware store.
Closet organizers do it yourself. Just take your time with the installation. Rushing will only cause mistakes and
do overs. So taking your time will ensure that you have the clean, organized closet that you have been dreaming of.
And you won't even mind putting your clothes back in when you see the final result.
